About the Flag

Paulo Frontin emerged around the railway station of the São Paulo-Rio Grande line inaugurated in 1908 as Paulo Frontin, named as a tribute to engineer André Gustavo Paulo de Frontin, also Mayor of Rio de Janeiro, Federal Deputee and Senator. The new settlement progressively superseded Vera Guarani, a town established within the Rio Claro colony in the late 19th century.

On 29 September 1943, at approximately 7:00 AM, a freight train coming from Ponta Grossa bound for União da Vitória signaled a problem. Noticing smoke in one of the cars, the train stopped at the water tank at the Paulo Frontin station, but there was not enough water to stop the fire. What really caught the attention of the Frontina population were the three whistles, a sign that meant an emergency call. With it, the railroad workers on duty gathered, but also many curious people. Upon confirming that there were explosives in one of the cars, it was taken to the line's maneuvering space, farther away from the station. The railroad workers asked people to move away from the place but not all answered. When the explosion took place, most people were approximately 500 meters from where the car was parked. On impact, they fell to the ground. The rail made an "S", digging a hole 15 meters wide and 10 meters deep. The station and a warehouse were destroyed. Two hundred meters from the site there was a store: the shock was so strong that everything fell off the shelves. People who were too close to the isolated car died. A total of 23 is estimated, of which few were recognized, as the explosion was violent.

Municipal website

The flag of Paulo Frontin is white, divided by a saltire composed of a red-white-red bend and a blue-yellow-blue bend sinister, charged in the center with the municipal coat of arms.
The coat of arms was, undoubtedly, designed by prolific Raynaldo Valascki.

The flag is also used, seemingly in less official contexts, with the coat of arms inscribed in a white rectangle.
