Baroque shield Or, a double-headed eagle Sable, nimbed Or, armed and tongued Gules, upon his breast an inescutcheon Azure charged with an intial "W" Or, between both heads an impending imperial crown Or.
Meaning:
The oldest city seal from 1240 with prints since 1268 displayed a single-headed eagle, the head flanked by cross and star. The 2nd city seal, used between 1277 and 1529 replaced cross and star by blossoms. The current pattern with the additional inescutcheon is in use since 1530. The pattern was based on the altered pattern of the imperial eagle, which was in use since 1433. Since then all seals displayed a double-headed eagle. Literature didn't mention the changes before 1584. Between 1818 and 1836 the city was enforced to display the Bavarian lion with inescutcheon on its arms.
