The coat of arms of UE San Francisco is made of a
shield bordered in yellow, whose field is diagonally divided into two quarters,
light green in the upper part and white in the lower part, with four symbols
superimposed: in the center of the upper quarter, the Greek letter Tau (T), as a
Franciscan allegory; the atomic representation, as a symbol of science; in base,
a book representing study and a branch of laurel meaning triumph.
Yellow
represents the Roman Catholic church while green is the symbol of hope.
Beneath the shield is placed the school's name, above it, its Latin motto, "Per
ardua ad astra" (To the stars through work").

The Tau Cross was St. Francis of Assisi's most
cherished symbol, representing Christ's cross and genuine penitence. The saint
believed that mankind's salvation could be provided only by the cross.
