The municipality of Villagarcía de la Torre (907 inhtabitants in 2019; 6,750 ha; municipal website) is located 110 km south-east of Badajoz and 10 km north-east of Llerena.
Villagarcía de la Torre is named for García Fernández, Master of the Order of Saint James, who organized the re-settlemnt of the former Arab place. The powerful castle of Villagarcía de la Torre was erected (or rebuilt) in the 15th century by Luis Ponce de León, first lord of the town.

Flag of Villagarcía de la Torre

The flag and arms of Villagarcía de la Torre, adopted on 10 May 1989 by the Municipal Council and validated on 10 March 1991 by the Royal Academy of History, are prescribed by an Order issued on 5 December 1991 by the Government of Extremadura and published on 10 December 1991 in the official gazette of Extremadura, No. 98, pp. 2,348-2,349 (text).
The symbols are described as follows:

: Quadrangular. Yellow with a red saltire. Charged in the center with the municipal coat of arms in full colors.
Coat of arms: Per pale, 1. Argent a lion gules, 2. Or a castle gules masoned sable port and windows azure. A bordure azure eight escutcheons or a fess gules. The shield surmounted by a Royal crown closed.

The Royal Academy of History rejected the proposed arms, which partially include the arms of the Ponce de León, once lords of the place, with one of the quarters substituted by a castle. Since the castle is already featured in the bordure of the lineage's arms, the resulting design lacks logic and should be modified.
The Academy validated the proposed flag "without opposition".
[Boletín de la Real Academia de la Historia 188:2, 179. 1991]

The arms of Ponce de León are indeed "Per pale, 1. Argent a lion gules, 2. Or four pallets gules. A bordure azure eight escutcheons or a fess gules".
