The municipality of Puerto Moral (288 inhabitants in 2015; 1,960 ha) is located 120 km north-east of Huelva.
Puerto Moral was first mentioned in 1407, as the settlement of La Morera, then ran by the Council of Seville. The local legend says that the hamlet was named for the Mulberry's (moral) Inn, a resting place for the travellers heading to Aracena on the Silver Road. The name of the village most probably refers to silk industry, originally developed by the Muslims, and to the mulberries required to rear silkworms. Puerto Moral was transferred in 1640 to the Count-Duke of Olivares.
The municipality of Puerto Moral was established in 1817, separating from Aracena.
The man-made lake called Aracena Pantano, indeed stretching over the municipalities of Puerto Moral, Corteconcepción and Zufre, was established in 1970 to collect the water from several local watercourses. The lake, which supplies the town of Seville with freshwater, has a strong touristic potential. In Puerto Moral, the San Pedro torrent powered several oil mills and a few grain mills, one of them having been recently restored.

The flag and arms of Puerto Moral, adopted on 25 September 1995 by the Municipal Council, are prescribed by Decree No. 337, adopted on 9 July 1996 by the Government of Andalusia and published on 17 August 1996 in the official gazette of Andalusia, No. 94, p. 10,072 (text). This was confirmed by a Resolution adopted on 30 November 2004 by the Government of Andalusia and published on 20 December 2004 in the official gazette of Andalusia, No. 246, pp. 28,986-29,002 (text).
The symbols are described as follows:
Flag: Rectangular, in proportions 11 x 18, made of a green panel with three yellow stripes perpendicular to the hoist. Charged in the center with the local coat of arms.
Coat of arms: Or a branch of mulberry vert leaved of the same and fructed sable. The shield surmounted by a Royal crown closed.
The symbols were proposed on 14 June 1995 by Juan José Antequera.
The mulberry (moral) makes the arms canting. The tree symbolizes the four ages of man in Garma's picturesque and unused symbology.

The Basque psychoanalyst Ángel Garma Zubizarreta (1904-1993) emigrated to Argentina in 1938. His book Psicoanálisis de los sueños (1940), translated into English as The psychoanalysis of dreams (1966), must be the source of Antequera's statement.
