My name is Earl (television series)

My name is Earl was a U.S. comedy about the misadventures of the titular character, who tried to even out his karma by righting a list of all the wrongs he had committed during his life. Most of the stories took place in fictional Camden County whose exact location was never given, but a comment made in one episode did seem to indicate that it was in the central time zone of the U.S.A.

In the episode Inside Probe (Part 2), an investigative reporter tries to find out the culprit behind the disapearance of the previous owner of local establishment The crab shack. One of the hypotheses is that he might have met foul play due to his political beliefs. It turns out that he used to fly the flag of Central, a local secessionist nation during the American Civil War. The Centrals reckoned that the North being industrial and the South having slavery, they could try and have both. The centrals lasted only an hour or so, long enough for the Union and the Confederacy to join forces and get rid of Central's leader (one of Earl's ancestors) while he was "otherwise engaged".

The flag of Central is seen a few times, being an horizontal triband red-blue-red with a white star centered, the whole being simple yet pleasing and making sense from a symbolic point of view.
