Located in Kyoto City Kyoto Prefecture and established in 1949. The embroidered ceremonial flag has purple background with a gold color emblem in purple fringe. The university flag has purplish blue background with a white emblem and white kanji university name written horizontally. (Source) The emblem of the university is the Chinese character 大學 for "University" on an apricot leaf, which was the family emblem of the birthplace of Honen Shonin, the founder of the Jodo sect of Buddhism, on which the university's founding principles are based. Based on the spirit of Buddhism and the founding principles of the Jodo Sect, the university's flagship mission is to nurture human resources who will contribute to the welfare and cultural advancement of the world.

The logo mark flag has white background with a sky blue, green, yellow, orange, red and purple logo mark and horizontal writing purplish navyblue English university name. The logo mark was adopted in October 1991. The "B", the initials of Bukkyo University, was used as a motif to create an innovative, unique, and original form. The symbol color is "purple," named after the name of the place where Bukkyo University is located, Murasakino (Purple Plains). The five lines flowing out from the curve of the "B" represent the trajectory of life for all students at Bukkyo University, and the colorful colors express the way in which those who teach and those who are taught interact with each other while cherishing their individuality and growing freely and powerfully.
