Located in Hiroshima City Hiroshima Prefecture and established in 1949.
The Embroidered ceremonial flag has green background with a gold, silver and green emblem in the center and gold fringe.
The color green was adopted in 1960 as a color representative of the fresh and new life that is rehabilitated from the burnt ruins of the atomic bombing.
The university flag has green background with a yellow ,white and green emblem in the center.
The emblem of the university, a design of fresh life and a phoenix leaf, was adopted in 1956 after slight modifications to the work of an engineering student selected from an internal competition. The phoenix, a spirit bird in Egyptian mythology, is said to be a phoenix that, after living for 500 years, sets fire to its nest, burns itself to ashes, and rises again from the ashes with new life. In reference to the phoenix, it symbolizes the new Hiroshima University, which was born in the city of Hiroshima, which was devastated by the atomic bomb.
