The Flag

Located in Mitaka City Tokyo and established in 1964. The college hanging flag has white background with a greenish blue emblem. The college emblem is a circular crest with a cross and the initial L. In April 1996, when the name was changed from Japan Lutheran Theological College to the current Japan Lutheran College, the college emblem was adopted. The letter "L" crosses and joins the cross to represent that the students, faculty, and staff, though numerous, are united in Christ to form one body, and that each is a part of the other. The outer circle with the English school name in white symbolizes the educational philosophy that aims at human development as commanded by Christ, "Be ye perfect, even as your Father in heaven is perfect" (Matthew 5:48), symbolizing the school's educational philosophy of human development as commanded by Christ. SINCE 1909" indicates that the school's long-standing traditions and founding spirit are still alive and well today, even though the name has been changed.

Supporters flag

The circular mark is the emblem of Japan Lutheran College & Seminary. The four letters of JLCS (Japan Lutheran College & Seminary) surround a cross in the center of Luther's rose emblem. The hand that firmly supports the college and seminary from below is the "Supporters' Association. The hand also looks like a flame (Acts 2:3), symbolizing the work of the Holy Spirit. The symbol is placed on a white hanging banner.
