Located in Kobe City Hyogo Prefecture and established in 1949.
The embroidery ceremonial flag has reddish brown background with gold-colored emblem in the center and gold fringe.
The university flag has reddish brown background with a white emblem in the center.
The emblem and flag of the university were adopted on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Kobe University at the council meeting held on February 15, 2001.
It is based on the design adopted as the regular badge in the "Call for designs for student badges" decided at the first council meeting of the new university on September 1, 1949.
The design is yellowish-white kanji word "大學" in the center and chrysanthemums on either side on a reddish brown background. The design was created by Takeshiro Kaneyuki, assistant professor at the Faculty of Education. The chrysanthemum is a modified version of the emblem chosen by Tetsuya Mizushima, the first principal of the former Kobe Higher Commercial School, who chose the chrysanthemum water emblem associated with the Minatogawa Shrine (Chuo Ward, Kobe City), whose main deity is Masashige Kusunoki.
Light reddish-brown brick color has traditionally been used as a symbolic color among Kobe University students. (Source)
