No Flag

It appears Mezquital does not use a municipal flag.

Coat of Arms

image from Facebook

The council informed me they did not have information regarding the coat of arms. An oval ring is filled in black; to its sides are branches tied together in a ribbon for peace. At the top is a deer head, typical of the environment. To the sides and below, "XIOTALH MDLXXXVIII JUN" is read, when the mission of San Francisco del Mezquital was founded (in 1588); the xiotalh are the Tepehuan Indians. Imposed on the oval is a scroll with rolled edges. The upper-left section depicts a sunset at a hill, with half of a wheel visible, likely for the first settlers. The upper-right section depicts a tree among a log by a ravine, with a scorpion visible; these remember the natural environment. The lower-left depicts a bonfire, probably for connection. The lower-right section shows a cob of corn in its husk for agriculture. To the left, an agave plant and crossed pick and axe, remembering that agave is an important product in its industry here and representing the exploitation of minerals and forest resources.
