The Island of Mozambique (Ilha de Moçambique in Portuguese) lies off northern Mozambique, between the Mozambique Channel and Mossuril Bay in the Indian Ocean. It is part of Nampula Province.  Prior to 1898 when the capital was moved to what is now Maputo, it was the capital of colonial Portuguese East Africa.

With its rich history and sandy beaches, the Island of Mozambique is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Mozambique's fastest growing tourist destinations.

The current municipal flag of Mozambique Island has a light blue background.  In the centre is the municipal logo, a stylised depiction of the Church of Santo António, in white with a black outline.  The name of the municipality, Ilha de Moçambique, is written in black letters on a white background in a scroll below.
