Çukurova University (Çukurova Üniversitesi - ÇÜ) was established in 1973 in Adana by merging the Faculty of Agriculture (founded in 1969 by the Ankara University) and the Faculty of Medicine (founded in 1972 by Atatürk University). In 1992, parts of the university were turned over to the newly established Mersin University, Hatay Mustafa Kemal University, and Kahramanmaraş Sütçüimam University.
The today's university is composed of 12 Faculties, 3 Institutes, 4 Schools, 8 Vocational Schools.

The green emblem of the university seems to include the stylized
initials of the university's name, "Ç" and "Û".
The former flag of Çukurova University (photo, photo) was white with a slightly different emblem in the center.
The issue of the university's emblem emerged as soon as the university was established. The emblem had to be ambitious to emphasize the university's ambition and had to be proudly used by any member of the university.
Decision No. 1/8 issued on 14 December 1973 by the university's Senate promoted a design based on a cotton boll. Companion Decision No. 1/9 prescribed the embroidering of the emblem on the scarf of the university's uniform.
Subsequently delayed, the adoption of an emblem was re-activated by Decision No. 38/5 issued on 29 November 1974, which called for a consultation of the faculties before the initiation of a public contest. Accordingly, the contest was prescribed by Decision No. 106/1 issued on 16 November 1976 by the Senate, which appointed a selection committee.
In the aftermath of the selection process, the author of the selected design was audited by the Senate. The design was first received with some reluctance, since numbers and a cotton boll were expected, while the selected design was composed of two letters. The Senate eventually adopted the emblem in its original design and colors, as exhibited in the Rectorate Museum.
