The flag of Inönü (photo) is white with the municipality's emblem in the middle. "Belediyesi" means "Municipality".
The emblem of the municipality features the Inönü Turkish Independence War Memorial (photo).
The two battles of Inönü, fought from 9 to 11 January and 26 to 31 March 1921, respectively, were the first battles fought and won by the Army of the Grand National Assembly over the Greeks. The military victories were the first steps towards the international recognition of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk as a significant actor in the conflict.
The commander of the Turkish forces, İsmet Bey, was given the name of İsmet Inönü by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk in 1934, when the Surname Law was adopted.
İsmet Inönü (1884-1973) succeeded Atatürk as the 2nd President of the Republic of Turkey (1938-1950), with the official title of "Milli Şef" (National Chief). He was Prime Minister in 1923-1924, 1925-1937, and 1961-1965. İsmet Inönü chaired the Republican People's Party (CHP) from 1938 to 1972.
