Trabzonspor (Trabzonspor Külübu) was established in 1967 as the merger of İdmanocağı, İdmangücü, Karadenizgücü, and Martıspor. The club joined the Top League in 1975, immediately winning the title in 1976, breaking the hegemony of the "Big Threes" from İstanbul (Fenerbahçe, Galatasaray, and Beşiktaş). The team won another five leagues in 1977, 1979, 1980, 1981, and 1984, and eight Turkish Cups (1977, 1978, 1984, 1992, 1995, 2003, 2004, and 2010). During its Gilded Age, Trabzonspor was mostly (1973-1988, with some breaks) managed by Ahmet Suat Özyazıcı (b. 1936).
The Europen record of Trabzonspor is less convincing, in spite of wins over famous clubs such as FC Liverpool (1-0, 1976) Inter Milan (1-0, 1983), FC Barcelona (1-0, 1990), Olympique Lyonnais (4-1 and 4-3; 1991), and Aston Villa (1-0, 1994).

Official flag of Trabzonspor

The today's official flag of the club (photo, photo, photo, photo, photo, photo , photo) is claret with the club's emblem in the middle.
Turkish football clubs are allowed to add a star over their emblem for every five national titles they won. Accordingly, a golden star was added over Trabzonspor's emblem in 1981.

The former club's flag was horizontally divided claret-blue-claret-blue with the club's emblem in the middle.
The colors of the flag were defined on the offical club website as:

1461 Trabzon

1461 Trabzon was established in 1998 as Değirmenderespor and acquired in 2008 by Trabzonspor, under the new name of Trabzon Karadenizspor. Number "1461" refers to the year of fall of the Empire of Trebizond to the Ottomans.
