In 2006, US Army Central was
activated from the Third US Army, and the Third Army flag is now used.

As
this article notes in the first paragraph: "This flag is quite unique in that
it is a textile constructed as a flag, yet it was never meant to fly. Instead,
Patton's Third Army Flag is a commemorative piece containing insignia from each
of the 56 Units and Divisions of Patton's Third Army."
Okay, not a
fly-able flag, but perhaps of interest regarding the "conservation" of a cloth
flag.

On 1 January 1983, it became US Central Command, with military responsibilities for the Middle East.
