Description of the Flag

Wright County, IA, has a new flag: www.clarionnewsonline.com/Articles-i-2009-12-03-240632.112112_Winning_design.html.

"-- December 03, 2009 - Karla Pals of Belmond submitted the winning design for the Design the New Flag contest for Wright County. The flag will be made by Sportsgraphics, and the design will also be used on shirts and other applications to promote the county. Pals is originally from Mason City, and enjoyed taking high school and college art classes. "I just like both drawing and painting," said Pals. "I thought about what was special to me about the county. I especially love the rural side of life here." Pals heard that there were a lot of entries, so figured the competition would be stiff. "I'm very honored to be the winner," said Pals. She has also been using her talent to paint a couple of barn quilt squares."

Previous Flag

The previous flag, which was adopted for the sesquicentennial celebration
in 2001 is located by Aleksandar Nemet: www.co.wright.ia.us/_1NewSite/Images/Wright_County_Flag_Contest.jpg. It is white with map of Iowa in dark-blue with location of the county in red, "WRIGHT COUNTY" on the top, and "150 YEARS" below.

Back in 2002, the Iowa State Association of Counties website hosted an account of each county's history, signed by its County Recorder, and illustrated with a black and white flag image. It is not clear whether these flag images were provided by the county administration or not.

All archived copies of the pages about Wright County still at web.archive.org/web/*/www.iowacounties.org/County+Info/Flags/Wright.htm lack the image of the flag. It was probably the same flag as described as the previous flag, above.

According to the booklet [u9s03b] (p. 14, 4th image of the 3rd row - the last photo of this book), the colors seem to be Old Glory red and blue.
