Newburgh adopted its flag officially on May 7, 1990, according to The Evening
News issue of May 8, 1990. The flag was unveiled in a fashionable manner, with a
color guard of four town officers shuffling into the council room, carrying it
along with the American flag, then placing them into their respective stands.
The flag of Newburgh is 3:5. The idea was conceived by councilman Charles
Walczak, who first proposed that idea in October the previous year. He said that
the white stripes are symbolic of the town as the crossroads of the northeast,
the town's slogan. Light blue simply just sets off the other colors of the flag
nicely according to him. This flag was designed by a committee of three, who
were: Walczak, Councilman Salvatore DeCrosta, and Historian Oliver Shipp.

The Town Seal of Newburgh, New York has the shape of the town inside.
Superimposed on the town's shape is the motto, "'Crossroads of the Northeast'"
in cursive italics.
