Martinsburg debuts new city flag
The Associated Press Feb 11, 2012
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. -- An official city flag is now flying over Martinsburg. As
Mayor George Karos raised the flag over the public square Friday, city leaders,
workers and the public looked on. The Journal reports that three flag poles were
erected as part of a remodeled public square, but then officials realized the
city did not have a flag. The other poles are for the state and U.S. flags. A
designer created a flag that features the city seal in gold surrounded by a
field of blue. Blue and gold are the Mountain State's colors. The city seal
features a buckskin-clad frontiersman with a long-rifle cradled in his arms. He
stands atop a Union shield and is centered in the circular seal.
