The American football Detroit Lions play in the National Football Conference (NFC) North division, part of the National Football League (NFL). The Lions play their home games at Ford Field in Downtown Detroit. The Lions were originally called the Portsmouth Spartans and began playing in Portsmouth, Ohio. They joined the NFL on July 12, 1930, and moved to Detroit, Michican for the 1934 season. The Lions have won four NFL championships, but their last being in 1957. As of 2016 they are the only NFC team to have never played in the Super Bowl.
