Montauk Tribe of Indians of Long Island is unrecognized Indian tribe in New
York. The Indigenous peoples of Montauk once resided in great numbers on the
eastern end of Long Island, New York. Due to the colonization of North America
and a 1910 ruling by Judge Blackmar, the Montauk Nation was disenfranchised from
their ancestral lands and told that they no longer existed as a tribe. Today the
Montauk are calling for the State of New York and the Federal Government to
right this wrong.
