Description of the flag

A new flag was launched at the sesquicentenary celebrations on 4 June 2009 (http://www.shellharbour.nsw.gov.au/default.aspx?WebPage=1253). This has a blue background, fading to white around the emblem in the centre, which now has "SHELLHARBOUR" along a wavy line above it. Both the old and new flags have been flown at the Administration Centre, Lamerton House, along with the Australian, Aboriginal and TSI flags in a slightly unusual flagpole arrangement. Barbara Witte, in a letter to the editor of the Illawarra Mercury published 27/28 November 2001, reports what she assumed to be the NSW state flag flying rather than the Torres Strait Islander flag. Switching from the state flag to the TSI flag in the time since 2001 would be against the trend seen in other councils in this part of the country (a long way from the Torres Strait), who started flying the TSI flag along with the Aboriginal flag, but later want back to flying the state flag instead.
