The flag of Cotia is white with the municipal coat of arms on the center. The coat of arms is
divided horizontally. The upper half is blue with a black mountain peak between a gold crown
chased with jewels and a white five-pointed star. The lower half is green with a wavy silver fess. Above
the shield is a gold mural crown; below it is a silver scroll inscribed with
the name of the municipality flanked by the dates 1723 (founding of the
settlement) and 1856 (attainment of municipal status). The blue color is
for the mild and healthy climate of the city. The crown represents the
patron saint of the municipality, Our Lady of Montserrat. The white star
recalls various illustrious citizens of Cotia. The black peak shows the
geographic situation of the city, which is atop a mountain. Green
represents the fertile fields and the wavy silver stripe symbolizes the
Cotia River.
