Hitzhofen Coat of Arms

Shield parted per fess embowed, above Gules a lion rampant issuant Or, beneath Argent three trefoils Vert issuant from a base of the same.
Meaning:
The tinctures red and white are those of the Bishopric of Eichstätt, to which Hitzhhofen, Oberzell (incorporated 1971) and Hofstetten (incorporated 1978), historically belonged until 1803. The lion is taken from thefamily arms of the Schenk of Geyern kin, who originated from Hofstetten. The kin was first mentioned in 1122. Heinrich of Hofstetten gained the local castle in 1276 as a fiefdom. The trefoils are alluding to the local pilgrimage, dedicated to St. Mary of the Clover.
