Shield Azure, a Z-shaped wolf-trap Argent, flanked by two 6-point stars Argent in sinister chief and dexter base.
Meaning:
Rüsselsheim gained city rights in 1437 and 1493, which remained however defunct. The rights were renewed in 1937. The arms display an old village symbol, a so-called wolf iron or wolf trap. The meaning or origin of the stars is not known. The combination first appears on the local seal from the 16th century. In the 17th century the composition appears in the seals under the lion of Hesse, as the town belonged to Hesse. In the 18th century the symbols were found on local boundary stones. In the 19th century the stars were erroneously painted as golden by Otto Hupp.
The arms were approved in 1926.
