Gütersloh county was formed 1 January 1973. It comprises the formerly independent county of Halle und Wiederbrück, as well as the city of Harsewinkel from the old county of Warendorf and the municipality of Schloß Holte-Stukenbrock from the former county of Bielefeld. Seat became in 1997 the city of Gütersloh, which replaced in that function the cities of
Halle (Westf.) and Rheda-Wiedenbrück.

Description of 1984 version:
The banner doesn't completely match the description as given by Veddeler 2003. In the 1984 version the shades are darker, especially the yellow has a touch of orange.
The coat of arms is only slightly shifted to the top and the ratio between the stripes is estimated 1:4:1.
Source: I spotted this flag on St.Michael's fun fair in Gütersloh on 29 September 1984, this day being St.Michael's day according to German Catholic Saint's calendar.
