Shield Azure, a castle Argent with two embattled towers and a central tower with cone roof Gules, in port an inescutcheon Azure in bend, charged with the arms of Nassau.
Meaning:
The arms were based on the oldest seals of the city, which date from around 1300. The arms show a fortified city with three churches, and a small shield with the arms of the Counts of Nassau. The city was a longtime possession of the Counts of Nassau. All later seal show a similar composition until the 19th century when the lion of Nassau was removed.
