Description of coat of arms:
Shield Azure, issuant from base a triplemount Or, charged with a 6-spokes wheel Azure, issuant from mount an oak tree Or.
Meaning:
Since 1047 the name of the municipality changed various times e.g. from Bomwide (1088) via Boemwede (1423) via Baumte (1652) finally to Bohmte (1823). The name "Bomwide" in Lower German means something like "tree forest" (bom = tree, wood and wide = forest, wood). As this sounds tautological, it is supposed that tree in this case is defined by its purpose and thus is timber, so "timber forest" might be appropriate. The oak tree is thus a canting element. The triplemount is alluding to nearby Wiehengebirge, a mountain ridge. The wheel is stressing the connections of Bohmte' s villages with the Bishopric of Osnabrück in the past.

Description of former flag:
The flag's ratio is 3:5. It is a blue over yellow over blue horizontal triband with ratio of stripes approx. 2:9:2. The coat of arms is in the middle of the central stripe.

It is nearly the same as the current one, but the wheel is missing and the shield has the typical German shape and is round in base.
