Description of coat of arms:
In a silver (= white) shield on a green base are two black horses forcene facing one another.
Meaning:
The horses are canting. The municipalities name is derived from place of mares (German: Mähre)

Banner and coat of arms were approved on 7 June 1982 by the county administration, published in GABl 560/1983. The banner had been already adopted on 20 April 1956 by the local council, which also confirmed the coat of arms.
