The municipality of Canjáyar (1,405 inhabitants in 2013; 6,700 ha; municipal website) is located on river Andarax, 50 km north-west of Almería. Canjáyar is well known for its ham.
Klaus-Michael Schneider, 24 October 2012The flag and arms of Canjáyar, adopted on 15 April 1999 by the Municipal Council, are prescribed by Decree No. 241, adopted on 13 December 1999 by the Government of Andalusia and published on 20 January 2000 in the official gazette of Andalusia, No. 7, p. 690 (text). This was confirmed by a Decree adopted on 30 November 2004 by the Government of Andalusia and published on 20 December 2004 in the official gazette of Andalusia, No. 246, pp. 28,986-29,002 (text).
The symbols are described as follows:
Flag: Rectangular flag in proportions 1:1.5, blue. In the center of the panel, in adequate dimensions respective to the dimensions of the panel, is placed a sheaf of [nine culms of] wheat tied by a yellow scroll, all or, per bend sinister with the spikes pointing to the fly.
Coat of arms: Azure a sheaf of wheat or per bend sinister tied by a scroll of the same. The shield surmounted by a Royal crown closed.
The coat of arms is shown on the second quarter of the arms of the Province of Almería.
The flag is a banner of the municipal arms.
