The municipality of Berzosa del Lozoya (189 inhabitants in 2014; 1,430 ha; municipal website) is located in the north of the Community of Madrid, 80 km of Madrid.
Berzosa was probably named by its early colonists for their place of origin. It is believed that they came from Berzosa de los Hidalgos, a place located on river Pisuerga in the Province of Palencia (Castilla y León); the neighbouring village of Cervera de Buitrago might have been named by the same people for Cervera de Pisuerga, located close to Berzosa de los Hidalgos. The popular etymology alludes to to brezos (heather) or berzas (cabbage).

The flag and arms of Berzosa del Lozoya are prescribed by a Decree
adopted on 20 November 1986 by the Government of the Community of
Madrid and published on 24 December 1986 in the official gazette of
the Community of Madrid, No. 305, pp. 14-15 (text) and on 26 January 1987 in
the Spanish official gazette, No. 22, p. 2,330 (text).
The symbols are described as follows:
Flag: Vertically tierced, or, green and or. The panel shall have proportions 2:3 (one and half time longer than wide).
Coat of arms: Or a tree eradicated vert in base waves argent and azure. The shield surmounted by a Royal crown closed.
