The municipality of Valdilecha (2,852 inhabitants in 2014; 4,248 ha; municipal website) is located in the south-west of the Community of Madrid, 40 km of Madrid.
Valdilecha is named for the Latin words vallis, "a valley", and dilectum, "selected". The village was first documented in a document signed in 1190 in Palencia by King Alfonso VIII; remains of the primitive Mudéjar church of the village (13th century) have been preserved, namely paintings in the apse.
Valdilecha was granted the title of villa in 1556 by Philip II.
