The municipality of Saint-Rome-de-Tarn (867 inhabitants in 2014, 5,206 ha; municipal website) is located 20 km south of Millau
Saint-Rome-de-Tarn was first documented in the 5th century when Saint Amans left to evangelise Rouergue. In the 10th century, a castle, called "the Big Tower", was built. The village became a stronghold of Protestantism and was ruined after the Wars of Religion.
The flag of Saint-Rome-de-Tarn, hoisted on the Carmes hill (561 m) in summertime (photo), is asqaure banner of the municipal arms, "Gules a lion rampant or", the lion facing the fly of the flag.
