Eugène Canu (1864-1952) was a noted copepodologist, shipowner and politician. In 1895, he was appointed member of the Consultative
Committee of Sea Fishery of the Minister of the Navy; he served also
as the Vice President of the Technical and Scientific Office of Sea
Fishery, as the President of the Encouraging Society for Ostreiculture
and as the President of the Shipowners' Syndicate.
Elected Representative of Pas-de-Calais in 1928-1932, Canu was rapporteur of the Bill on the increase of the ports of Boulogne-sur-Mer (1930) and Cherbourg (1932). He was also President of the General Council of Pas-de-Calais in 1928-1934, and Mayor of Boulogne-sur-Mer in 1935-1940.
