Rémy Chuinard, a shipowner from Granville, was involved in the "grand
fishing" on the Grand Banks of Newfoundland; he is credited the
introduction of steam trawlers in Granville.
The Almanach du Centenaire, 1816-1916, issued for the celebration of
the 100th anniversary of the reincorporation of Saint-Pierre-et-
Miquelon to France, includes several mentions of Chuinard. The Rémy
Chuinard company owned buildings and moorings in Saint-Pierre, where
it was managed by Rémy Chuinard Fils (Jr.). Two ships were registered,
the Normandie and the Sans-Gêne. Chuinard was member of the
Cercle de Commerce et de l'Industrie and President of the Syndicat
des Armateurs à la Grande Pêche.

Chuinard's house flag is shown in the Yearbook of the Central Committee of France Shipowners (1922) as vertically divided blue-white (1:2) with a red disk in the white stripe.
