The Town of Buje (Italian, Buie; 5,340 inhabitants in 2011, 3,001 in the town of Buje proper) is located in the north-western corner of inland Istria. The place is most famous in modern times for the electronic factory Digitron situated there.
Željko Heimer, 2 January 2005
The symbols of Buje are prescribed by Decision Odluka o grbu i zastavi Grada Buja i lenti gradonačelnika Grada Buja, adopted on 30 July 1993. This is repeated in Articles 31-35 of the Town Statutes Statut Grada Buja, adopted on 31 October 2001 by the Town Assembly and published in the Town official gazette Službeni novine Grada Buja, No. 5, and in Articles 36-39 of the today's Town Statutes Statut Grada Buja, adopted on 30 July 2009 by the Town Assembly and published on 31 July 2009 in Službeni novine Grada Buja, No. 11.
The flag is prescribed as a vertical, with the coat of
arms set so that its bottom point is in the centre of the flag, while
the bottom edge has four rectangular tails, all outlined along the
edges with a yellow ribbon. This would, indeed, be the ceremonial flag
The most commonly used flag (photo, photo) is in proportions 1:2, Bordeaux red with the coat of arms, outlined in white, in the middle. The cross is of normal red shade in some flags and Bordeaux red, like the flag background, in other ones.

Flag and arms of Buje during the Socialist peeriod - Images by Željko Heimer, 15 July 2016
The town adopted different symbols during the Socialist period.
Obviously, the coat of arms with the cross was not ideologically acceptable and had probably been left in disuse ever since 1945.
The symbols of the time are described in the Municipality Statutes Statut Općine Buje - Statuto del Comune di Buie, published on 28 April 1976 in the Municipality official gazette Službeni vjesnik Općine Buje - Gazzetta Ufficiale del Comune di Buie, No. 4.
The flag is described in Article 4 of the Statutes as follows:
The flag is red, charged in the center with the Municipality shield in golden yellow. The dimensions of the flag are 1 m x 2 m.
The shield showed four stripes issuing parallel to each other from the bottom and curving two to the left and two to the right towards the top flanks of the shield.
