The municipality of Brela (1,771 inhabitants in 2001, 1,618 in the village of Brela) is located along the coast, about 45 km south of Split. The village of Brela was known until 1994 as Donja Brela, opposed to the old village of Gornja Brela (128 inh.), located in the Biokovo mountain steeply raising above the sea.
Brela is known as "the pearl of the Makarska Riviera. In 2003, the American magazine Forbes put the Punta Rata beach on the list of the 10 world's most beautiful beaches, where it is ranked 6th in the world and 1st in Europe (Wikipedia).

The symbols of Brela are described in Articles 4-7 of the Municipality Statutes Statut Općine Brela (text), adopted on 14 July 2009 by the Municipality Council and published on 20 December 2010 in the Municipality official gazette Glasnik - službeno glasilo Općine Brela.
The symbols were designed by the Heraldic Art d.o.o. company, from Rijeka, and approved by the Ministry of Administration / Central State Office for Administration before 2006.
The flag is in proportions 1:2, blue with the coat of arms, bordered yellow, in the middle.

The coat of arms is described in the Statutes as "in blue on a silver/white rock two pines".
The coat of arms depicts the Brela Rock that is raising in the sea in front of the town (photo).

The ceremonial flag is a blue gonfalon with the coat of arms in the middle, the name of the municipality above and two pine branches below.
