Mithila (also called: Maithili) was a historic kingdom (Videha) in what is
now State of Bihar in India and a large part of the territory of Southern Nepal.
Recently, there are demands to create a separate state of Mithilanchal within
Indian Union. The last Mithili princely states adhered to the Union on August
15, 1947.
