Some info
for the flag:
The color of Jabat’s flag represents the sea surrounding the
island. The white rays symbolize Jabat’s guiding light, Christianity, while the
red rays symbolize their bravery & independence. According to Jabat folklore,
the island’s ability to sustain itself is because of two sisters “Lajtokion” and
“Lajtokrok”. According to the story, these girls would turn into white birds and
would fly different directions, Lajtokion would fly to the north while her
sister would fly to the south with their woven baskets and would gather food and
deliver them back to Jabat. These girls or birds are also shown on the flag to
represent Jabat’s sustainability. The placement of the star on the flag
represents Jabat’s geographical location in the Marshall Islands as it is
located in the center of the RMI.
Jabat Island flag was designed by Mrs. Mary Note, wife of long-time
representative of Jabat Island, Kessai H. Note.
