Coat of Arms

The coat of arms was designed by the architect Humberto Murillo Lozano and approved by the council on 21 December 1989. Description according to Héraldica Municipal de Chihuahua:

Shield resolved over Spanish field, it is checkered or chessed, integrated by 4 sections, its blazons are from top to bottom and left to right: the Temple of Nuestra Señora del Refugio [Our Lady of the Refuge] representing the Catholic religion, the Conchos River crossed by a bundle of ears [of wheat], and a cob of corn represent agriculture, the Stele (the profile of an eagle) marks the passing of the father Don Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla, here the Father of the Fatherland slept here chained to a mesquite tree, in the bordure goes the year of 1582, which makes reference not to the foundation of the population, rather to the passing of the Spaniards. A Christian cross uniting the four sections makes reference to the Catholic religion and to the name of the Municipality; as a complement the shield carries a ribbon cresting it with the original name: El vado [The ford]. Circling the shield goes two bordering objects to the manner of a wreath of branches of Madras thorns.

The border reads "TRABAJO Y CARIÑO PARA CON LA TIERRA" [Work and Care for with the land]. At the top of the bordure is the name "LA CRUZ CHIHUAHUA", with the code 08 to the left for the state and 016 to the right for the municipality; these are codes primarily used by INEGI for statistical purposes.
