The coat of arms was approved by the council on 4 May 1946, possibly the oldest in the state. Description according to Héraldica Municipal de Chihuahua:
The lower part is divided into four uniform sections, signaled by a horizontal line and another vertical (parted and cut in the first the head of a Spaniard symbolizing Cristóbal Rodríguez, the first white who established himself in the territory [plus a shovel and pickaxe); Guaynopa, first foundation, and the year in which the first Mine was proclaimed. In the second the forest of pine trees and sawmills, economic factors in the foundation of the municipal seat, both quadrants with a blue background. In the third the map of the Municipality with expression of its boundaries [in rays of red and yellow] and the year in which it was founded [1911], likewise a point which signifies the municipal seat [with the names of surrounding municipalities also shown and their borders briefly visible]. In the fourth a chain of mountains (the Sierra Madre) and a sun which represent the working and agrarian assertions, consecrated in the Constitution that of which based the endowment of ejidos and the union programming of the region.)
A cow head is also visible in the fourth quadrant, symbolic of cattle-raising. The bordure is wooden (as Madera means wood in Spanish), with the words "UNIDAD TRABAJO PATRIA" [Union, Work, Fatherland] surrounding. At the top is a shape in the National colors reading "MADERA CHIHUAHUA" (going from green to red).
