The coat of arms was designed by the architect Humberto Murillo Lozano, being adopted on 11 July 1990. Description according to Héraldica Municipal de Chihuahua:
Resolved over Spanish field, the same of which is chopped and sliced, carrying as blazons the following: a head of a Spaniard forward to that of a Tarahumara, signifying the fusion of cultures, a shade with benches symbol of family tourism, the symbol of the Jesuits which were the evangelizers of the region, a pick and shovel make reference to mining, 2 pine trees to its forestal wealth, and 3 mountains represents the roughness of the terrain, the 3 mountains carry [tropical fruits referring to the fruticulture of the ravines], the symbols Pb, Ag, Au, which make reference to lead, gold, and silver, respectively, metals which are extracted from the mines, of this municipality, the year of 1825 makes reference to the discovery of the founding Mine: Sangre de Cristo, the shield as a complement carries two ribbons, in the upper one goes the original name of the municipality: San Antonio de Morelos.
At the top of the bordure, it reads “MORELOS CHIHUAHUA”, with 08 to the left for the state and 046 to the right for the municipality; these are codes used by INEGI for statistical purposes.
