No Flag

I was informed the municipality does not use a municipal flag.

Coat of Arms

The municipal coat of arms was adopted in May of 1987/1988, designed by Martina Burruel Córdova, who was chosen through a call for submissions from the council.

The coat of arms has leaves to the shield's sides. Above are the words "Mazatan, Sonora; Fundado en 1750" and below a small ribbon in the national colors pokes out. At the top, there is a red hill with a deer's head above, alluding to the municipal name (Place of the deer). A highway cuts across the shield, crossing a river that is the Mazatán River. On its north bank there is a small cluster with a Mexican flag, representing the municipal seat's location. Also depicted are a head of cattle and a lake, found within possibly a styling of the municipal boundaries. To the left is a man wearing a sombrero and sarape, behind a horse-drawn plow on his fields. To the front of him, three bundles of wheat are found along with an ear of corn; below are an image of a pig and goat over a green area. To the right of the municipal map are four wheels of cheese and a red hill with a helmet and pick above its entrance, representing mining.
