Niger Coast Protectorate ensign
image by Blas Delgado, 09 Dec 2002
The Niger Coast Protectorate flew a British blue ensign defaced with the badge of the protectorate in the fly. The badge appeared as an amendment to the 1889 Admiralty Flag Book. The amendment slip was printed November 1895 and issued 05 June 1896. The ensign became obsolete in 1900.
Although the badge appeared in a flag book in 1896, the Protectorate was
not transferred from the Foreign Office to the Colonial Office until 1899.
This suggests that the badge was used for only a very short time, or perhaps
not at all.

The Governor's flag followed the standard pattern and was a British Union Flag
defaced with the badge of the Protectorate in the centre surrounded by a garland
of laurel wreath.
