It is a typical Portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a field quartered of blue and yellow.

Shield Vert, a pillory Or, flanked by a dolmen Argent at dexter and an inescutcheon Azure at sinister, charged with a Cistercian bend between two fleur-de-lis Or. Mural crown Argent with four visible towers (town rank) and white scroll with inscription in black initials "TURQUEL".
Meaning:
The inescutcheon displays the arms of Cistercian Monastery of St. Mary of Alcobaça, former owner of many domains in the municipality.
