Coat of arms

[Morais commune CoA] image by Sérgio Horta and António Martins-Tuválkin, 6 Apr 2016

The shield is Argent and Sable per saltire and overall an eradicated mullberry tree Vert. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers and white scroll reading in black upper case letters "MORAIS". The shape of the scroll is the one favoured by heraldrist José Bénard Guedes.
Meaning:
The arms (and thus the flag) are atypical, because it makes use of a shield partition, which is usually said to be against the legal prescription. "Morais", although usually the plural of "moral" (id. Engl.), in this case seems to refer to mullberries instead (Latin morus, Port.: amora), the arms being thus either canting or punning.
