It is a fairly typical Portuguese municipal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a field quartered yellow over black (town rank).

On a purple field, a golden castle charged with a quina (11 circles) over silver-blue-silver waves and on both sides a golden fleur de lis, silver mural crown with four visible towerstown rank and a white scroll with black upper case letters "VILA DE MONTEMOR-O-VELHO".
