It is a typical Portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a plain yellow field.

Shield chequered of Vert and Or, six pieces per fess and five pieces per pale, superimposed by a bar wavy Argent charged with a barrulet wavy Azure between a Greek cross Argent in chief and a crescent accompanied by a 5-point star - both Gules - in base. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll with inscription in black initials: "RIBEIRA - PONTE DE LIMA".
Meaning:
"Ribeira" means "river banks" and is located just east of Ponte de Lima, Thus the fess wavy is probably a canting element symbolizing river Lima. The other symbols may symbolize that the river had been a border between Moorish and Christian territory in the Middle Ages.
