It is a typical Portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a field quartered of red and white.

Shield Vert, issuant from base five mountains Or, superimposed by a barrulet wavy Azure, the central one crowned by a castle Argent, masoned Sable with port and windows Sable, in central chief an annulet Or gemmed Gules. Mural crown Argent with four visible towers (town rank) and white scroll with inscription in black initials "SORTELHA"
Meaning:
The castle is reminding on the fact that Sortelha had been a walled village with a castle in the past. The annulet is reminding on medieval tournaments, where the knights used annulets as a target in archery. The mountains are representing the local landscape. The barrulet wavy is representing little Liz River crossing the commune.

Sortelha Commune is one of the 30 communes of Sabugal Municipality; it had 444 inhabitants in 2011 and covers 25.3 km².
