Coat of Arms

Shield Vert with base wavy of Argent and Azure, on fess point a basket Argent filled with grape bunches Purpure leafed Argent, on dexter chief point a crossbow Or in pale, on sinister chief point a horn of the same, issuant from base wavy a throughout bridge Argent masoned Sable with two arches. Mural crown Argent with four visible towers (town rank) and white scroll reading in black upper case serifed letters "UNIÃO DAS FREGUESIAS DE TONDELA E NANDUFE".
Meaning:
The crossbow is referring to the historic value and the local warriors, having been crossbowmen, of the old municipality of Besteiros, which had four communes, all having the appendix "de Besteiros". That municipality was dissolved in 1836 and incorporated into Tondela Municipality. The horn is a representation of the Fountain of the Mermaids, a local well, as well as the toponymic element "Tondela", which means "to her tone" (Portuguese: ao tom dela). Basket and grape bunches are symbolising agriculture and viticulture, with emphasis on the Dão wines, produced here, furthermore to handicrafts, especially the famous baskets of Nandufe. The bridge is a representation of the local Roman bridge, crossing the Dinha River, a tributary of the Dão River, represented by the base wavy. The bridge is also a symbol of the architectural, cultural and natural heritage.
